The 9 March will mark the beginning of the Expert Programme in Port Operations promoted by the University of Cantabria in partnership with Bergé. This programme is part of the first year of the Master’s Degree in Maritime Business and Associated Logistics which is currently underway, as of this academic year.

The 2017 Shanghai Ranking has recently rated the University of Cantabria as the 6th best university worldwide in the field of Marine/Ocean Engineering. Only four Spanish universities are ranked within the international top 10 in any given academic area.

This new educational programme provides an opportunity for both professionals with experience in the sector who would like to update their knowledge and for qualified young people or those interested in embarking on a career in this field. It is a degree with high academic merit in a professional field where the specialist training offered is lacking in prestigious programmes with this certification.

The course is led by the Professor and Merchant Navy Captain, Carlos Ángel Pérez Labajos, and will be taught in the Bergé lecture hall at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Náutica (Higher Technical Nautical College) in Santander. It will have a total study load of 600 hours and consist of 24 credits. The pre-enrolment period will be open from 14 February to 9 March on the website of the University of Cantabria.

The selection criteria will depend upon applicants’ CVs, the academic transcript presented and the personal interview they have with the teaching staff. As a University of Cantabria own degree, the Master’s Degree is offered with a modular framework, where students can either enrol separately in each of the two Expert Programmes it is comprised of, which have been running for 10 years now, in different academic years, or in the full Master’s Degree. The University also gives former students of the Specialist Programme in Shipping the opportunity to validate their qualification by studying the Expert Programme in Port Operations and thus be able to obtain the Master’s Degree.
