  • The industry’s need for specialised professionals is forcing the private sector to take action and develop its own training.

BERGÉ and the University of Cantabria have launched the latest Master’s Degree in the Management of Maritime Business and Associated Logistics, seeking to build the next generation of talent in logistics.

This initiative, now in its ninth year, is the result of the industry’s need for specialised professionals, which is forcing the private sector to develop its own training in order to create a pool of talent aligned with its needs.

As such, graduates of the master’s degree will join the company with knowledge in innovation and logistics 4.0, together with a culture of seeking the most efficient solutions to the day-to-day problems of this business.

The training is designed for senior naval or industrial engineers, or any speciality related to the maritime and logistics field, as well as recent graduates in Business Administration, Law and International Trade, as well as professionals who are already working and want to continue their training in a specialised programme in the industry.

The course consists of 1,500 hours for a total of 60 credits (19.30 theoretical credits and 40.70 practical credits) plus a master’s thesis and paid work placements with companies in the industry.

The educational content covers maritime business and logistics in a cross-disciplinary way, from freight forwarding activity, regular shipping lines or maritime brokers, to customs management, consignment and loading and unloading of ships and storage, including the management of energy resources.

According to María Elena Sanz, Chief People Officer at BERGÉ, “this master’s degree is part of the company’s commitment to make the logistics industry stronger and more competitive and, in turn, to transfer this contribution to Spanish industry as a whole, thus making it a place where talent can emerge and grow, thereby preventing the talent drain of highly specialised, valuable professionals.”
