BERGÉ which handles more than 5 million tons of clinker, cement and bagged mortar a year, in addition to other industrial bulk (coke, limestone, gypsum), has strengthened its position as leading logistics operator in the cement sector in Spain.

BERGÉ has been committed to this industry for many years now as Spain is one of the largest cement exporters, leading the European Union in this sector. At present, according to data from the OFICEMEN trust, 7.7 million tons of cement and clinker are exported per year, with around 13.58 million tons of each consumed.

In fact, the port city of Malaga will this year host the European Cement Congress; “Intercem Shipping Forum”, on 20 and 21 January, which is specially dedicated to maritime transport for the cement industry in Europe and the Mediterranean. This event provides a meeting point for producers, marketing companies, charterers, shipowners and port/terminal operators who deal with cement, welcoming more than 100 delegates from over 20 countries.

BERGÉ, as logistics operator in this sector, will also take part in the event, as it directly offers its services in all stages of the supply chain (managing charters, freight, port services, customs, quality control, loading and unloading of vessels, transport and storage) and provides solutions from the place of origin to the final destination.

In addition, the company has been working on new systems which look after the environment, applying the best practices in its use of equipment and personnel teams to reduce the carbon footprint and save energy (with the use of flexible flaps, hopper extensions, side walls and strip curtains or LED lights). All this, as part of the BERGÉ Management System, ensuring standards of quality, environmental care, and health and safety at work, with a comprehensive monitoring of the KPIs to be able to offer the best possible service.
