- The company is committed to this sector and has a total surface area of 3,500 m2 in warehouses with the capacity to hold up to 12,000 tonnes of bulk products.
- In 2016, BERGÉ managed over 900,000 tonnes through the port of Santander, 180,000 t of which were agri-food products, figures that position the company as a leader in handling and transport in this segment.
Santander, April 2017.- Bergé (www.bisl.es) has recently expanded its storage capacity around the port of Santander by purchasing new warehouses for agri-food products and also by improving its equipment to handle and store these products.
Therefore, new warehouses and a surface area of 3,500 m2, with the capacity to hold up to 12,000 tonnes of bulk products, especially cereals and flour, are added to these facilities, an investment by Bergé in its strategy for growth in the agri-food segment.
At present, Bergé works with a large number of leading clients for the port of Santander, from where they distribute their goods to the consumer areas of influence, offering them over 40,000 m2 of storage area with a capacity of over 100,000 tonnes in its port facilities, along with its 50+ years of experience in managing such goods.
In addition, the impetus given to the area of agri-food product management in Santander will also gain force next May, when Bergé will have a new 9-metre high hopper with a 250-t capacity for handling these types of products. This equipment will have state-of-the-art technology and multiple systems aimed at minimising the emission of particles into the atmosphere during the unloading process, such as a flex-flap type structure, upper extension, side walls and strip curtains, which will improve the already demanding environmental standards.
In 2016, Bergé managed over 900,000 tonnes of general and bulk goods at the port of Santander. Agri-food products accounted for 180,000 of these tonnes, which amounts to almost 50% of the volume of such goods at the port of Santander.
In addition to these figures, it should be added that Bergé is a leading company with certifications in GTP food safety (for the storage and transport of cereals, oilseeds, protein crops and other plant products), GMP+ (ensuring food safety), and also in ISO 9001 and 14001 management systems. Therefore, the company guarantees safety during handling processes (loading and unloading), storage and transport of such goods and offers all of its clients the necessary services for appropriate traceability and safety in all processes in the port logistics chain.
