  • This new area will improve its capacity for operations, increase project cargo services and stimulate activity in strategic sectors such as the steel industry

BERGÉ has begun operations at its new terminal in the Port of Barcelona, which is now located at the Príncipe de España quay. This move is part of an ambitious project to modernize and overhaul terminals and infrastructure.

This has meant moving in Barcelona to a terminal which offers much more capacity for operations. Benefits will be seen in particular in project cargo services. The Port of Barcelona plays a key role in this growing sector, as a gateway to the Mediterranean from ports in North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Not only are these new port facilities much closer to port access points, they also allow BERGÉ to concentrate its operations in a single place. The resulting lower volume of traffic in the port area leads to greater efficiency and less impact on the environment because of less emissions and transit times.

The new terminal in numbers

The new terminal has 73,733 m2 multi-purpose operating area, as well as 295 metres of preferential mooring space in quay 29A and a further 331 metres for Ro-Ro cargo on quay 30A with depth of 14 and 12 metres, respectively. This is set to be increased in the future.

In order to handle special cargoes, this terminal has different technical equipment such as STS cranes, mobile cranes, reach-stackers, RTG units, tractor heads and platforms.

The operating capacity at this port complements the 40,000 m2 of covered space in the Free Trade Zone which is used for value-added logistics, storage, forwarding or customs warehouses.

BERGÉ manages all types of goods from Barcelona, including general cargo, containers, ISO tanks, Ro-Ro cargo and project cargo. It also offers a range of value-added services, such as the moving, emptying or filling of containers, as well as being agent and representative of several main shipping and cruise lines.

BERGÉ has been present in the Port of Barcelona for more than 70 years. It operates in 27 ports in Spain and France (Bayonne), handles more than 30 million tonnes of goods each year and is the leading consignment company with almost 10,000 ships per year; these just an example of its many impressive statistics.
