BERGÉ yesterday received the largest vessel used by Global Steel Wire S.A., Motor Vessel “CASTILLO DE NAVIA”. The vessel, which came from CORPUS CHRISTI (United States) with a 19,450-tonne cargo of hot briquetted iron (HBI) for Global Steel Wire, a company belonging to the Celsa group, was managed by BERGÉ both in terms of consignment and stevedoring.

MV “CASTILLO DE NAVIA” is a bulk carrier belonging to the shipping company Empresa Naviera Elcano, built in 2015 at the shipyard Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd. (SHGSIC) and measures almost 260 m in length, with a beam of 43 m a draught of 14.7 m. Without a doubt, it is the vessel with the largest beam that has entered the Port of Santander.

The BERGÉ Santander terminal manages around 375,000 tonnes of iron ore, wire rod and scrap metal for this company on an annual basis. The entry of vessels of this size into the Port of Santander is possible thanks to the commitment, good management and know-how of companies such as BERGÉ.

BERGÉ has been working with the Celsa Group for more than 20 years, offering its services in Santander and other ports. Today, as recognition, BERGÉ and executives of Global Steel Wire organised a commemorative event in Santander where they presented the captain of the MV “CASTILLO DE NAVIA” with a plaque reflecting the relationship between both companies.

GSW is the Celsa group company responsible for manufacturing wire rod in different sizes and types of steel. It operates in all sectors where products using wire rod are manufactured, with a growing presence in the automotive industry and other industries with similar requirements.
