  • After stopping in China and Japan, the Nereus Highway vessel will arrive in Barcelona for loading and unloading of vehicles and project cargo.
  • BERGÉ are proud representatives of K Line in Spain.

K Line, represented in Spain by BERGÉ, have included Barcelona as a port of call on the maiden voyage of its new LNG-powered vessel, Nereus Highway. This ship can hold 7,000 vehicles and is part of 11 vessels the company has ordered to then be put into service over the next few years.

This new ship left Chinese shipyards last August and after stopping at ports in China and Japan, the Car Carrier (PCTC) has reached the Port of Barcelona to load and unload vehicles and project cargo. From here, it will set sail to the north of Europe.

To celebrate this inaugural port of call and in keeping with tradition when ships visit the port for the first time, the Barcelona Port Authority honoured the event by presenting the vessel captain with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. This landmark event was witnessed by Lluís París and Anna Llisterri on behalf of the Port Authority; and Susanna Hakobyan, Jan Handler and Aleix Martínez Catasús, representing BERGÉ.

Rather than traditional fuel oil commonly used by ships in the past, this vessel is wholly driven by LNG. This means it adheres to the new ecological standards set by the market and contributes significantly to the sustainability of the entire value chain.

BERGÉ is the main Spanish agent for K Line and handles import/export services from the Port of Barcelona with destinations on the East Coast of the USA and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as serving Asia from the Port of Santander.

The LNG-powered vessels reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) by 21% compared to conventional marine fuel. Other pollution from agents such as sulfur oxide (SOx), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) are reduced to almost zero by using LNG, making transport much more environmentally friendly and reducing the carbon footprint of shipped goods.
